CalAIM Implementation of Recuperative Care Services: Lessons Learned (2024). Resource Type: Publication. Description: The purpose of this issue brief is to document what is working well with the implementation of the CalAIM recuperative care service to date, what remains a challenge, action steps California should consider moving forward, and advice for other states looking to add a statewide Medicaid benefit for recuperative care. Integrated Behavioral Health Care for Transgender and Gender Diverse People: An Affirming, Harm Reduction, and Trauma Responsive Approach (2023). Resource Type: Publication. Description: Integrated behavioral health care cannot eliminate all barriers and health inequities experienced by transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people. It can, however, serve as a bridge to overall wellness, and can fulfill functions associated with primary care, and in doing so, can represent a low-barrier, harm reduction method of meeting patients’ needs. It can provide a setting to address mental health concerns that may arise from the process of negotiating one’s identity as a TGD person, being denied certain forms of health care, or navigating spaces where one’s value is diminished. Integrated behavioral health care can also help to facilitate the initiation and management of gender-affirming hormone therapy, thereby reducing the need for referrals to specialty providers, eliminating wait times, and enhancing patient and provider satisfaction. Suicide Prevention Strategies for LGBTQ+ Communities White Paper (2023). Resource Type: Publication. Description: The stunningly disproportionate rate of self-induced deaths among LGBTQ+ individuals is an ongoing emergency. LGBTQ+ Care clinicians and other health care workers serve sexual and gender minority (LGBTQ+) people every day, but adequate preparation about supporting these populations is rarely offered in professional training. This publication highlights some of the pressures that lead sexual and gender minority people to suicide, what factors elevate or lower self-harm risk, and interventions to help LGBTQ+ people build resilience in a hostile world.
