Resource Summary: The Renaye James Healthcare Advisors’ Learning Collaborative will cover various aspects of safe patient care, including safety measure/metric identification, data collection, leadership commitment, facility requirements, regulatory requirements, external collaborations, and governance involvement. These sessions will also illustrate how the Board of Directors promotes a culture that prioritizes safety and includes safety metrics in its strategic oversight. The content will reinforce how focusing on patient safety by all departments and staff positively impacts patients and the organization. Participants will identify a hypothetical patient safety event that could occur at their health center and will be asked to draft a plan for investigation and response.
Resource Details: Participants will be able to provide a description of how all staff have a role in patient safety; explain the patient’s role in patient safety; define a “safety event\"; understand the value of reporting a safety event and identifying opportunities for improvement; recognize that policies and procedures are developed for staff to support patient safety; and recognize that the governing body and all employees must maintain a focus on patient safety.
